How GPA is calculated
Each course's grade point is multiplied by its credit hours. Add those up, then divide by the total credit hours. The example courses above are placeholders: change them to your own courses and grades.
GPA = Σ (grade point × credit hours) ÷ Σ credit hours
How CGPA is calculated
CGPA combines every semester so far. It is not the simple average of your semester GPAs, because semesters with more credit hours carry more weight.
New CGPA = (old CGPA × old credits + this semester's grade points) ÷ (old credits + this semester's credits)
Grade points used

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between GPA and CGPA?
GPA is for one semester. CGPA is the credit-weighted average of all semesters completed so far.
Can I average my semester GPAs to get CGPA?
Only if every semester has the same credit hours. Otherwise, use credit-weighted grade points, as this calculator does.
How do I convert CGPA to percentage?
There is no single national formula. Each university publishes its own conversion, so use the one on your transcript or in your university's handbook.
What CGPA is needed for a degree?
Many universities require at least 2.00 to graduate, and higher for scholarships or MS admissions. Check your university's rules.
