    How to calculate Zakat

    1. Enter today's gold and silver rate per tola from a local jeweller or a sarafa market rate.
    2. Enter how much gold and silver you own in tola, plus cash, bank balances, business stock, money owed to you and investments.
    3. Subtract debts that are due now, such as unpaid bills or instalments currently payable.
    4. If your net wealth is equal to or more than the nisab, Zakat is 2.5% of that net wealth.

Zakat = 2.5% × (total zakatable assets − debts due now), if the result is ≥ nisab

    What is nisab?

Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must hold for one lunar year before Zakat becomes due. It is 7.5 tola (about 87.48 grams) of gold or 52.5 tola (about 612.36 grams) of silver. One tola is 11.664 grams. Many scholars in Pakistan advise using the silver nisab because it is lower, so more people qualify and more Zakat reaches those in need. If all your wealth is gold only, the gold nisab applies.

    Which assets count?

    • Count: gold, silver, cash, bank and savings balances, prize bonds, business stock kept for sale, shares and mutual funds, and loans you expect to recover.
    • Do not count: your home, car, furniture, clothes and household items for personal use, and business equipment or machinery.

    Zakat deducted by banks

Banks in Pakistan deduct Zakat on savings accounts on the first day of Ramadan unless you have filed a Zakat exemption declaration. If your bank has already deducted Zakat, subtract that amount from what this calculator shows.

    Frequently asked questions

What is the nisab of Zakat in Pakistan?

It is the value of 52.5 tola of silver or 7.5 tola of gold. Multiply today's rate per tola by 52.5 (silver) or 7.5 (gold) to get the nisab in rupees.

    What percentage is Zakat?

Zakat is 2.5% (one fortieth) of your net zakatable wealth held for one lunar year.

Is Zakat due on jewellery worn by women?

Most Hanafi scholars say yes, Zakat is due on gold and silver jewellery, including jewellery that is worn. Other schools differ, so follow your own scholar's guidance.

Is Zakat due on my house or car?

No. Assets for personal use are not zakatable. Property bought to resell is counted at its market value.

Why does the calculator ask for today's gold rate?

Gold and silver prices change daily, so the nisab in rupees changes too. Entering today's rate keeps the result accurate.
